Starting December 12 , 2023, all details* regarding donations made via the JGive platform will be transferred to the digital system of the Israeli Tax Authority (ITA).
This collaboration with the ITA is being carried out so that donors can easily and quickly claim their tax credits without completing complicated and unnecessary paperwork. For the full article about this initiative, you can click here.
For your convenience, we have compiled an FAQ in the wake of this upcoming change.
---------------------------
How will it work?
When you make a donation on the website, you will be asked whether you want to send the donation details to your personal area in the ITA. If you choose to do so, information about the donation (including the receipt) will be automatically transferred to the ITA, and will be accessible via your personal area.
---------------------------
Which donation details will be transferred to the ITA's digital system?
All information entered into the system throughout the donation process. This includes the donor's name, email address, ID number, date of donation, donation amount, details of the charity receiving the donation and the transaction’s receipt.
---------------------------
Based on which identifying data will the donation details be transferred to the ITA's system?
The information will be transferred to the donor's personal area based on the ID number entered with the payment method (and thus appearing on the receipt). If a payment method not belonging to you (e.g., spouse's) is used, and you want the receipt to be transferred to your personal area and not the payer's, you will need to choose the option "I want other name and ID number to appear on the receipt" in the second stage of the donation process and enter your full name and ID number there.
---------------------------
If I chose not to send the receipt to the Tax Authority's digital system and then changed my mind, what should I do?
Once a receipt is generated anonymously, it cannot be sent afterward. In such a case, you can contact us to credit the donation.
---------------------------
Will all donations to any registered charity on the JGive platform be automatically transferred to the ITA's system, or does it depend on each individual charity’s decision?
The transfer of donation details to the ITA's digital system is at the discretion of the donor and not the charity. Details of each donation to any charity on JGive’s site will automatically go to the system unless the donor chooses otherwise.
---------------------------
Will donations made outside the JGive platform also be sent to the ITA’s digital system?
There is no way to know if donation details made outside the JGive platform will be transferred to the ITA's digital system because, in the first stage, only charities choosing to do so will report through the digital system. With a donation through the JGive platform, however, there is certainty that the receipts will be transferred to the personal area of the ITA if the donor so chooses.
---------------------------
Is there an option not to send donation details (including the receipt) to the ITA’s digital system?
Until January 1, 2024, you can choose not to send the receipt to the ITA’s interface and if you so chose, it will not be considered an anonymous receipt that cannot be used for tax credit. Starting from January 1, 2024, donations that are not sent to the digital system of the ITA (at the donor's choice) will be considered anonymous donations and it will not be possible to claim tax benefits for them.
---------------------------
Will I still receive an original receipt for my donation?
Certainly! After making the donation, you will receive a duplicate and original receipt by email, just as it has been until now. In addition, you can still download a central receipt for all donations made on the platform throughout the year and use it to apply for a tax refund.
---------------------------
Will it still be possible to use the central receipt?
For donations made in 2023 (and in previous years), it will be possible to download a central receipt. From 2024 onwards, there will be no need to use a central receipt because all information about donations (including receipts) will go directly to your personal area in the ITA's digital system.
---------------------------
Can I file an online tax refund application for donations made in 2023 through this system?
Unfortunately, although donation details will be transferred to the new system, it will not be possible to file an online application for tax adjustment for the year 2023 in this way. We hope that this option will be available in 2024. Until then, you can still submit an online application for tax refund for donations made through the JGive platform using the old method. Here is a link to the guide explaining how to claim tax benefits for donations made on the JGive platform.
---------------------------
After transferring the information to the ITA's digital system, will the credit be automatically processed?
While donation details (including receipts) will be automatically transferred to your personal area in the ITA, the actual process of applying for tax adjustment will require an additional online process (without having to collect receipts for all donations made during the year). When the system is completed, we will provide further updates.
---------------------------
Is it necessary to keep the receipts I receive for each donation through JGive?
From January 1, 2024 the receipts will be automatically transferred to your personal area in the new Israeli Tax Authority (ITA) system (except in cases where the donor chooses not to transfer the receipt to the ITA and it is considered an anonymous receipt for which tax benefits cannot be claimed).
Please note that as long as the tax coordination system is not implemented in 2024, it is advisable to continue saving the receipts sent by email. Once the system is launched for tax coordination (we will update when that happens), there will be no need to continue keeping the receipts.
---------------------------
I work for a company that deducts tax on my salary for the donations I make on JGive. Is this relevant to me?
Donations sent through the JGive platform to the employer for tax credit purposes will be sent to the donor's personal area in the ITA with a unique marking sent to the employer for salary credit.
---------------------------
If we are a registered charity on JGive’s platform and do not want the donation details received by our charity to be automatically transferred to the ITA, what should we do?
It is not possible to be registered on JGive and choose not to have the donation details received by our platform automatically transferred to the ITA's digital system. A charity not interested in this can contact us, and we will remove them from our system.
---------------------------
Is there a fee for the service?
Service is free of charge!
